Union Wharf is located in the attractive and historic market town of Market Harborough. The Wharf is at the terminus of the canal close to Foxton Locks and the historic Incline Plane. Enjoy a spot of lunch at The Waterfront or cocktails and nibbles in the Botanical Bar.

The flight of ten locks are the longest and steepest staircase locks in the UK. Delve into the history at Foxton Canal Museum. Enjoy a leisurely walk around the canal, browse the secondhand bookshop, have a drink at Bridge 61 Pub, sit down for lunch overlooking the water at the Foxton Locks Inn and even grab a cheeky ice cream from the Top Lock Cottage Cafe. If you really want to make a day out of it, why not hire a canal boat and enjoy the full experience? Hire a Boutique Narrowboat for a holiday from Union Wharf. Stay in the luxurious Foxton Locks Lodges to explore more of the district.


The Leicester Line of the canal takes a quiet path as it meanders through unspoilt rolling hills and countryside. It branches off towards Market Harborough and heads to North Kilworth in the opposite direction. Noted and recognised as the top most scenic canal location from Rate this Scene 2022 national survey, from over 15,000 images, this summer evening sunset with English countryside and waterway reflection along the stretch by the hamlet of Wistow was voted the most beautiful. Circular walks can be enjoyed here with a visit to Wistow Rural Centre for refreshments and unique shops.

A transformational project promoting the cultural heart of the town is in the making. With a history of hosting touring opera productions on the historic estate since 2005, Nevill Holt Opera was founded in 2013 as an independent festival with its own distinctive vision. Since then NHO has been committed to casting and working with young UK opera singers, while bringing world class opera to the East Midlands. Their stunning 400-seat theatre is designed by Stirling Prize winning architects Witherford Watson Mann in conjunction with theatre designers Sound Space Vision.
