You will design and produce a simple woodcut print using your own collected ideas and imagery under the instruction of woodcut primnting expert Jo McChesney.
The day will begin with a brief experiment on a sample piece of wood before carving the woodblock which is a piece of Asian plywood. Using your ideas you will transfer, trace or draw, your chosen image onto the wood and then carve the design using woodcut tools, gouges provided.
When the carving is complete, ink is applied over the surface of the plate using an ink roller or brayer, using safe wash relief non toxic ink. After the surface is inked up, a piece of fine paper is placed over the plate and then rubbed, or burnished. The design will transfer onto the paper. You will have created a unique hand burnished print. This wooden template can be used again and again – ideal for Christmas cards/tags. Your image will be approximately A5 size
